Katherine never could figure out how the other patients had done it, had managed to disillusion themselves to the point they no longer saw their surroundings as a prison, but as a home. The scientists and guards were mistaken for fond caregivers, deeply concerned in the patients' well beings. Katherine audibly snorted causing a few heads to turn in her direction, but she merely met their content or discontent gazes with her own dark one. The thought that those around them actually cared for the inmates of Kryostone was laughable, all they were interested in was how the patients' reacted to the experiments and that they behaved enough that the world within the lab ran 'smoothly'.

Her knuckles whitened as she gripped the edge of her seat under her legs, her mind in a tizzy as she mentally scorned herself for being such a coward that she hadn't tried and escaped yet. All it took was a flashback to the pain she had endured, the various experiments administered to test her healing capability without painkillers despite some objections from the staff. But no one seemed brave enough to go against 'windigo' who appeared to be one of the head scientists, and it was his insistence that the testing would suffer if pain killers were allowed, so instead Katherine had suffered. The only good thing to come of it all, was they believed her to be broken, believed there was no way she would cause any kind of trouble, so they had started allowing her to join the others in one of the 'socializing' areas.

She wasn't stupid, she knew part of the reason they'd started bringing her to the area was in hopes she'd start to speak again, to open up to someone, but for the past month, all she did was sit in a chair, her white board set on another chair, propped against its' back, and threw her dry erase marker at a square she had drawn on it. They'd tried threats, had even taken the white board and marker away, but all it had accomplished was to cause Katherine to delve deeper into her memories, to try and focus on happier times in her life. So they'd reinstated her property, since the white board and hand gestures were all she would use to communicate with people, but still no one had been able to get her to speak.

She released the seat of her chair, her hands slightly numb as she picked up the marker in one hand and began to throw it at the white board, the only sound issuing from her isolated corner as the other patients kept their distance.

For Aaron this was a "good" day. Yet what was ever a good day really. He supposed it was the getting out of his room that made it good, but he still had to see the faces of all those people he hated. So he supposed he could say it was a good day compared to most. It meant less confinement and more space. Space was something he desired at any degree these days, but he would of liked to have more, desired to have more. He unlike most of the feeders around, was still convinced he'd find some way out of the hell hole, even if it would take a millennium to do. Did ever falter, oh yes. There were days when he didn't believe this, but it was always short lived.

He'd pose defeat for the audience being the doctors and scientists, when underneath it all he was sure of himself for the most part. He loved fighting them constantly, but lately he wanted out more and so he behaved...for the most part. That was why today was a "good day" to the best it could be.

Going into the shared area, he found himself looking around at the others whom many he didn't know, but some he'd met in short stance. Many of them weren't as altered or as messed up as he was. Others were more messed up and had less alterations to themselves. It all really depended. The social setting was a bit claustrophobic, but he put that on the fact he was in isolation a lot. He looked back over his shoulder and saw that the guards who brought him, had left his side and went to the door. In a sense he was free now from some eyes, but not all. Aaron wasn't stupid, he knew there were cameras. It was after he looked over his shoulder that a familiar face of some degree caught is eye.

Katherine was not exactly besties with Aaron, but he had acquainted himself with her once or twice when he got a chance to be out. They sort of bonded over similar feelings for the facility and thing just went from there. He was very smart ass and she was very sassy even though she wouldn't physically talk. The combination worked well to a degree. Slowly he came over to where she was sitting and sat down next to her. The only reason he could wander was because his powers were bound by special cuffs that neutralized his abilities. He smirked at her aggressiveness towards the board.

"Clowns or midgets?" he stated teasingly in a soft tone. He wasn't used to talking to people that often so he was more soft spoken toward others, even if he could be explosive sometimes.[/blockquote]

At the sound of his voice, the corners of her mouth twitched upward, but she kept her lips from forming a true smile. In her mind, because their were cameras everywhere, someone was always watching, observing, and she didn't want those who ran things to think she may be forming bonds with other experiments that overstepped the boundary of acquaintance. She stopped throwing the marker, and turned to give Aaron a sly look before reaching over and retrieving the white board. She popped the cap on the green marker, sitting back in her seat now facing Aaron, the bottom of the white board resting on her lap as she held it up with her left hand.

Her right hand made easy movements across the board, her eyes concentrating on her work. After a few minutes, she put the cap on the marker and tossed it on the table. Her gaze lifted to Aaron's as she turned the board around. Pictured was a crude drawing, not much better than that of a child's, of what looked like a person, clown on closer inspection with a big nose and curly green hair spiraling from its' head at three different parts, wearing a lab coat and carrying a clipboard and next to him was a much smaller person in stature dressed in the guards uniform of Kryostone 13. Above the two were written the words, 'Why not both?".

She had shown the image to Aaron briefly, long enough for him to see the picture and hopefully glean the correct information from her ill skilled drawing, before wiping it clean with the long sleeve on her top. It left a green streak on the sleeve, but she didn't seem to care as she set the board on the table and gave her attention to Aaron, her right hand flipping the tail of her braid back behind her shoulder.

Her thoughts wandered somewhat as she gazed at Aaron's form. They really knew nothing about each other except a bit of their personalities and that they both agreed the facility was a prison, so needless to say, Katherine's curiosity was starting to get the better of her. The most prominent thought was what tier did Aaron belong and what experiments had he been subject to? Perhaps if she still had the ability to shift, her sense of smell would have been keener and she would have had the chance to ferret out what he was form that, but that sense was strongly lacking so she had to be content to wait and for now, she seemed to have plenty of time.

All Aaron could do was give a short laugh and smirk at her drawing and words scribbled out on the board. He carefully took hold of the marker and pulled the top off the thing with a sucking pop. The scent drifted up to his nose and made it tingle.

"Heh, yeah...why not." he commented as he drew a hangman's noose around both drawings necks. It's meaning was meant to have both a serious, but comedic teasing tone at the same time. There were some there he wanted to truly kill on a daily basis, and there were some he wanted to only kill on situational basis. The noose in his mind represented those he wanted to kill on a daily basis. He put the lid on the marker and put the marker down.

"You holding up?" he asked. "The crazy people ain't drivin' you too crazy? I'll get in trouble and beat them up for you if their driving you nuts."

His addition to her drawing inspired a spontaneous full blown smile which she quickly checked, hiding her pearly whites quickly and turning her gaze downward. She knew it wasn't a crime, but the place made her feel that enjoying herself was wrong. Her young brain, that in many ways was still stuck in that teenage state when she was captured, didn't see the wisdom of the fact that laughter and watching patients having fun might be a better weapon against the establishment than silence. But wisdom came with experience, something she lacked, so instead of exploiting the secret mirth and amusement the two felt, she had turned her gaze downward guiltily.

After his question, she picked up the white board, wiping it completely so nothing was left, another green smear added to her shirt. She often wondered what the staff in charge of laundry thought when they saw her shirt and if she was the only one with this kind of privilege, but she'd probably never get a chance to ask, so the thought was always a fleeting one. With a serious look, she scribbled hurriedly, trying to get her thoughts out as quick as if she was talking. When she was done, she slid it in front of Aaron, which read; It's not worth you getting in trouble. I can't imagine what punishment they'd think of.

At the bottom, in smaller script, almost like it was an after thought were written the words; Are you talking about the scientists or the patients? Her gaze searched his curiously, wanting his clarification.

"Eh. Sure it is." he gave her a grin. "It's always worth it. Any excuse to rebel rouse. I love ruffling chicken feathers. I'm called Trouble after all. I am whatever the hell they say I am. Why not."

He couldn't help but laugh before he said his next comment, "Who else is crazy in here. Definitely not us. No Alex Trebek I'll have to go with the white coats for a bazillion. Hah hah hah. Crazy is a crazy does, life is like a box of colored goldfish, never know whatcha gonna get."

He tried to mimic the voice of Forest Gump. The movie was sad, kinda horrible, but it was better than watching nothing at all. It was almost taunting watching human shows, but he once was human. A part of him that sorta forgot, but didn't. he was sort of a sad little thing to be honest when it came to such things. Yet he looked at her with a smile, she was one of the special few he did smile at.

His smart aleck comment brought a stifled smile to her face, trying her best to look mad at him for making such a remark, but she wasn't having much luck, the amusement clear in her eyes before she rolled them at him. She turned once more to the board, the words removed with a swipe and she quickly scribbled across the top, A simple scientists or patients would have been answer enough.

A small space below that she wrote, What do you mean by box of colored goldfish? I get that it's a joke, but I'm not familiar with the reference. It struck her as odd that he would be comparing life to colored goldfish while changing his voice which she concluded must be in imitation of someone but she had no idea who.

She paused as she contemplated what to write next, the marker starting to tap out a rhythm on the table. She wasn't sure how to best explain, without using her own voice and tone, that if he had gotten in trouble for her she'd feel guilty and if she was being honest, sad. Aaron was the only one at this point she conversed with and if he did get in trouble and ended up stuck somewhere alone, he wouldn't be talking to her.

She began to bite on her lower lip, realizing the truth was better kept to herself and a more catty response or wording would go over better. With a grin she began to write out, ]Ruffling chicken feathers? No wonder they have you cuffed, most of them can't afford to lose any more of those, you'd see their yellow bellies.

With a smarmy grin she flipped the board up, her hands on either side as her chin rested on the top, watching Aaron read.
